International conference on Judicial and Quasi-Judicial Independence

On Friday, the 25th of May 2012, the Department of Administrative Law and Public Administration of the University of Groningen and the Groningen Centre for Law and Governance will host an International conference on Judicial and Quasi-Judicial Independence , in Groningen, the Netherlands, at the Hanze Sociëteit, situated at the Oude Boteringestraat 19.

This conference will reflect on the parameters of the principle of judicial and quasi-judicial independence, the functions this principle plays in our democratic societies, the ways in which it is protected, its limits and its impact on the balance of power between the legislative, executive and judicial branches. The focus will be on both judicial independence and quasi judicial independence of bodies such as regulatory agencies, enforcement authorities, advisory and complaint committees.
